Harvey & John
Harvey & John is an experiential design studio that develops practical innovations to amaze and inspire, in the shape of batch-produced products, bespoke creations, and large-scale installations.
I worked in the core design team supporting ideation, development, CAD & fabrication. I worked between Harvey and John and their sister company Guineapig Global. During my time there I worked across a broad variety of projects.
The Team
The core team comprised of 4 people, in addition to myself there was: a Design Lead, a Project Manager and a Studio Coordinator. During busier periods a roster of freelancers was utilised to bolster our team.
My Role
I began as CAD Engineer and progressed to Senior Designer.
Users & Audience
We worked B2B serving several industries and audiences. I will detail these in the introduction of each project below.
Pours
Introduction
Pours is a whisky dispenser that senses the presence of a glass and uses a pump and the weight of the moving liquid to pour a perfect serving.
I was the Lead Industrial Designer for its development. Our user group was whisky drinkers, happy to spend upwards of £800 on a single glass of Whiskey, typically men between the ages of 35-65.
Ideation & Development
Over 3 months, I spurred the early design stages of Pours via ideation sketches, workshop exeriments and iterative prototyping. As the prototypes developed I began working with a contracted electrical engineer, to ensure the various components and PCBs were contained and supported correctly within the product.
DFMA
For the final stages of development I used Fusion 360 almost exclusively, producing a complete master assembly of the device. I used this to produce drawings for outsourced components, refine the mechanism and to hone the aesthetics.
Wrap up
I designed custom flight cases for Pours and supported in the design and assembly of several batch runs. It is still being produced and sold (at request) today.
